A shas'el can only advance to shas'o after repeated success in the fires of battle, to establish the strategic and tactical brilliance demanded by the Fire Caste for the rank. Though he bears the symbol of the Fire caste on his armour, he bears his own. Included is a drone, which can be assembled as a gun, shield or marker drone. Commander Farsight, a renegade Fire Caste commander and T'au hero (depending on one's perspective) was of this rank. There is no figure in Tau history as divisive as Commander OShovah.

Shas'O Vior'la Shovah Kais Mont'yr aka O'Shovah or Commander Farsight is alleged to still be leading the Farsight Enclaves, although this would mean that he has lived for at least three centuries, considerably beyond the ordinary lifespan of Tau Fire Caste members.
